Cavaliers Re-Sign James Harden to Multi-Year Contract

The Cavaliers also recorded a 19-7 (.731) record with Harden in the lineup after acquiring him via trade from the L.A. Clippers on February 4, 2026. Harden also helped lead the Cavaliers to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018 and ninth time in franchise history. During the 2026 Playoffs, he appeared in 18 games (all starts), averaging 19.2 points, 5.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.72 steals in 37.3 minutes. For Harden, the postseason berth marked the 17th consecutive postseason appearance of his career, becoming one of five players in NBA history to have 17-straight appearances in the NBA Playoffs (joined Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jason Kidd and Tony Parker).   

Entering his 18th NBA season, Harden has appeared in 1,221 NBA regular season games (1,007 starts), owning career averages of 24.0 points, 7.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.47 steals in 34.8 minutes per game with Oklahoma City, Houston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, L.A. Clippers and Cleveland. One of only five players in NBA history to average at least 24.0 points and 7.0 assists per game, Harden has also recorded 82 career triple-doubles (eighth-most in NBA history) and 409 double-doubles. The three-time NBA scoring champion (2018-2020) has logged 783 games with 20 points (10th-most in NBA history), 344 games with 30 points (12th-most in NBA history), 107 games with 40 points (4th-most in NBA history), 25 games with 50 points (4th-most in NBA history) and four games with 60 points (T-4th most in NBA history), ranking among the top 15 in each category.

Harden has also appeared in 191 postseason games (148 starts) over his career, the third-most playoff games among all active NBA players. He holds playoff career averages of 22.2 points, 6.4 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 1.64 steals in 36.3 minutes per game. Harden has reached the NBA Finals once in his career, in 2012 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and has made five Conference Finals appearances, including in 2011 and 2012 with Oklahoma City, 2015 and 2018 with Houston and 2026 with Cleveland.  

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have re-signed guard James Harden to a multi-year contract, Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced today.

Harden (6-5, 220) appeared in 70 games (all starts) this past season, including 44 games with the L.A. Clippers and 26 games with the Cavaliers, averaging 23.6 points (17th in the NBA), 8.0 assists (4th in the NBA), 4.8 rebounds and 1.13 steals in 34.8 minutes, while also shooting a career best .884 free throw percentage (15th in the NBA). The 17-year guard also recorded 20 double-doubles and two triple-doubles on the year while making 215 three-pointers, the 15th-most made triples in the NBA this past season. It was the eighth time in his career with at least 200 made three-pointers in a single season. In his 26 games with the Cavaliers, Harden averaged 20.5 points, 7.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 33.8 minutes.
