Akron Wins 7-5 Behind Fox’s Big Night

Turning Point
Akron loaded the bases with the game tied in the sixth on singles by Aaron Walton and Bennett Thompson and a walk by Fox. Alex Mooney reached on a fielder’s choice which allowed Walton to score. Maick Collado followed with an RBI groundout to make it 5-3 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Ryan Degges battled around traffic most of his start on Wednesday night. The righty allowed six hits over 4.2 innings but allowed just three runs (two earned) and struck out three. Izaak Martinez was brilliant in relief tossing 3.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit while striking out four. Zane Morehouse allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out one to secure the win.
Duck Tales
After Somerset scored twice in the bottom of the first, Akron answered in the top of the second. Fox tripled with two outs to score Dean Curley before scoring a pitch later on a single by Mooney. Fox once again helped Akron answer Somerset by doubling home Thompson in the fourth to tie the game 3-3. Akron got some insurance in the eighth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Thompson and Fox to make it 7-3 Ducks.

Fox’s three-hit game was his first hits since returning from the IL…Martinez retired the first seven he faced out of the bullpen and faced the minimum in his outing…Game Time: 2:41…Attendance: 4,529.

Akron’s victory snapped its five-game losing streak and Altoona’s season-long six-game winning streak.
Schlesinger Stellar, but Curve Slam Downs Ducks, 4-2
RubberDucks left-hander Rafe Schlesinger threw a career-long 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his final start of the season and Akron collected 11 hits, but Altoona first baseman Callan Moss’s two-out grand slam in the eighth lifted the Curve to a 4-2 win and fifth straight victory over Akron at Peoples Natural Gas Field Friday night.
