Akron Rally Falls Short in 8-6 Loss to Somerset Despite Two Schubart Homers

Turning Point

After Akron tied the game in the top of the fourth, Somerset’s offense exploded in the bottom half. Two-run home runs by Josh Moylan and Rodrick Arias bookended the scoring in a six-run inning to make it 7-1 Patriots.

Mound Presence

Braylon Doughty allowed seven runs (six earned) over 3.2 innings while striking out three in his start on Thursday. Michael Kennedy struck out two over a scoreless 2.1 innings. Adam Tulloch struck out three and allowed one unearned run over two innings.

Duck Tales

Somerset took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first, but Akron answered back in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Schubart. After Somerset’s big fourth, the RubberDucks started to chip away in the fifth when Alex Mooney launched a solo home run. Logun Clark got the Ducks closer in the seventh when he singled home Luke Hill to make it 7-3 Patriots. Schubart once again showed off his impressive power in the eighth launching a two-run home run to make it 8-5 Somerset. In the ninth, the RubberDucks loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Cesarini lifted a sac-fly to score Mooney. Somerset was able to get a strikeout to strand two and end the game.
