The Cleveland Monsters fell to the Grand Rapids Griffins (45-13-4-1) 5-2 on Thursday evening at Rocket Arena. With the loss, the Monsters are now 33-23-6-1 and are currently in fourth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
Following a scoreless first period, Cleveland’sLuca Pinelli put up the first goal of the contest at 1:46 of the second period assisted by Mikael Pyyhtiä and Caleb MacDonald but Grand Rapids’ Carter Mazur grabbed the equalizer at 4:16 to make it an even 1-1. The Monsters’ Luca Marrellicapitalized on the man advantage with helpers from Jack Williams and Luca Del Bel Belluz at 18:31 but Mazur responded once again at 19:59 to make it 2-2 heading into the final frame. Grand Rapids added three more in the third with tallies from Eduards Tralmaks at 2:00, Wojciech Stachowiak at 4:23 and Shai Buium at 14:48, bringing the final score to 5-2 Griffins.
Cleveland’s Ivan Fedotov stopped 19 shots in defeat while Grand Rapids' Carter Gylander made 28 saves for the win.
